SEASON ENDS FOR CHICKASAWS, LADY CHICKS
The Blytheville Chickasaws were defeated 21-1 in the first round of the 5A East District tournament Saturday, bring their season to a close.
The Raiders jumped out to 14-0 lead on the Chicks in the first inning. BHS scored its only run in the top of the third but the Raiders added four runs in the bottom half of the inning and then three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Leading the Chicks offensively were Mac Connell (run scored), Chris Pugh (1-3) and Garrett Cloud (1-2).
Friday night BHS defeated the Forrest City Mustangs in a doubleheader. The Chicks came away with a 9-6 victory in game one.
Leading the offense in the first game were Vancel Lucas (3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI), Connell (1-4 with two RBIs), Pugh (1-2 with a run scored and an RBI), Ronald Connor (run scored), Austin Fink (3-4 with two RBIs and a run scored), Cloud (2-4 with an RBI), Corey Chunn (1-4), Myron Diamond (1-3 with two runs scored) and Josh Wells (3-3 with two runs scored and an RBI).
Connell picked up the win, allowing six runs on eight hits. He also fanned five Mustang batters.
In the night game of the doubleheader, BHS defeated FCHS 24-5 to finish the regular season.
The Chicks led 4-3 after the first inning but added 16 runs in the second inning to lead 20-5. They finished the game by adding four more runs in the top of the third.
Leading the offense in the second game for the Chicks were Lucas (3-3 with three runs scored), Connell (4-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored), Pugh (2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI), Darren Henderson (3-3 with four runs scored and three RBIs), Fink (2-2 with four runs scored and two RBIs), Cloud (3-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored), Chunn (2-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored), Devion Young (run scored), Josh Wells (1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored) and John Grace (2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored).
Lucas pitched all a complete game allowing five runs on seven hits. He fanned three Mustang batters.
Meanwhile, the Blytheville Lady Chickasaws (7-24) saw their campaign come to an end, Saturday, when they were defeated 15-0 by Greene County Tech in the first round of the 5A-East Tournament at Nettleton.
