CHICKS’ CLARK SIGNS WITH ARKANSAS TECH
Thursday, Blytheville Chickasaws senior lineman Larry Clark signed his National Letter of Intent with a Division II school, the Arkansas Tech Wonderboys (AT) of Russellville.
The signing recognition was an emotional time for both Clark and head coach Ben Fisher who have been close over the years.
"It's amazing, it's hard [to leave] just growing up here and being around these people your whole life, you just come to the part where you have to grow up and leave. I'm thankful for everyone who has played a part in the role that's led me to my success," said Clark.
"[Larry Clark] is a better person than he is a football player, and I think he's a great football player," Fisher said.
Clark has been recently named to Arkansas All-Star game in Conway this summer and has been named All-State and All-Conference this season. He was also apart of the All-CN team.
"It's great and an honor," Clark mentioned.
Clark is a leader in the eyes of Fisher. After the signing, many former and younger players stopped for pictures with Clark, and Fisher says everyone respects him and he leads by example.
"That's his personality, everybody likes him but they also respect him. He's not like a vocal leader; he leads by example. He works hard in the classroom; he works hard in the field house. He's just an easy guy to like," Fisher added.
Fisher, an AT alumni, said that Arkansas Tech was never discussed until the day before their official visit. Clark was being looked at by several D1 programs before turning to AT.
"It's my school and I'm extremely happy that is where he is going but that was his decision. We didn't even talk about Arkansas Tech until the day before we had our official visit. I didn't even know he wanted to go there. [Larry] called me and said 'Coach, what about D2' and I said 'you know if you don't feel comfortable at the D1 schools we can go look at the D2 schools. There are several in the state that plays good football and has good academics' and he said he wanted to check out Arkansas Tech," Fisher said. "He just gelled with the coaching staff and he said all the schools we visited they talked about the family atmosphere but he said at Tech you could feel it."
