BIG 3RD LIFTS CHICKS OVER RAMS
The Blytheville Chickasaws used a big third quarter to pull away from Paragould, 52-29, Friday night in a conference contest at Chickasaw Gym.
The Chicks (5-4, 2-1) forced eight turnovers in the third period, holding the Rams scoreless for the first five plus minutes of the frame.
Blytheville’s Winston Peace had three key steals that lead to third-quarter points, as Blytheville extended a 19-12 halftime lead to 39-17 by the end of the frame. Peace had eight of his game-high 12 points in the third.
The Chicks continued to pull away in the fourth quarter, leading by 29 at one point.
Blytheville went on an 8-0 run in the first quarter and led 15-8 going into the second period.
Paragould closed the gap to 15-12 midway through the second quarter, but Blytheville scored the final four points, including a late steal and bucket from Jaurous Haynes, who gave the home team a seven-point edge at the break.
Behind Peace, Michael Caruthers chipped in 10 points for the Chicks. Haynes and Tony Newmy added eight each, Tremaine Jamison five, Jaquon Fowler three and Curtis Smith, Demareon Garvin and Corey Chunn two points each in the win.
