CHICKS TRAVEL TO IMPROVED VALLEY VIEW

After getting their first conference win against the GCT Eagles on Friday in front of the homecoming crowd, the Blytheville Chickasaws (2-4, 1-2 5A East) will hit the road to face a much-improved 5A-East opponent, the Valley View Blazers. The Blazers (4-2, 2-1 5A East) are senior-laden and much improved from last year’s team that failed to make the playoffs and finished with a 5-5 record. “It’s going to be a lot like last week,” says Fisher. “They’re going to motion, they are going to run one guy one way and hand it to a guy going the other way, but we can’t just get caught up in all that stuff and just read our keys. The guys have got to trust us as coaches and that’s what we’ve got to do. They’re a lot like GCT, just the execution is a little bit more precise with Valley View, and not to take anything away from GCT because I think they have great kids who work hard, but just a little bit of better athletes at Valley View, so it’s just going to be a little bit tougher.” The Blazers are led by senior all-state quarterback Joseph Waleszonia, who is also the starting point guard for the Blazer basketball team. “(Waleszonia) is a tough runner,” says Fisher. “The quarterback is a tough runner and that’s who they like to run the ball with. They’re going to run power and counter. He’s going to throw the ball when you least expect it, you’ve just got to be on your toes and ready to go.” According to Fisher, the Blazers also have a big, 6-foot-2 receiver that they like to run the jet sweep with and also when needing key yards they look for him.
